May Kristin Svanholm Hegvold is a soprano from Trondheim, Norway. She finished her bachelor’s degree in 2016 at the Conservatoire in Trondheim (NTNU) with professor Elisabeth Meyer-Topsøe, before moving to The Hague and the Koninklijk Conservatorium where she completed two master’s degrees. First in early music, with teacher Rita Dams and renowned baroque specialists, such as Tineke Steenbrink, Robin Blaze, Dorothee Mields Hunt, Pascal Bertin en Peter Kooij, then in classical singing, with Noa Frenkel, Rita Dams and Phyllis Ferwerda as her main teachers.
May Kristin has participated as a soloist in many productions, including the premieres of two newly written operas by Norwegian composers, Pappapermisjon (Paternity leave) by Bertil Palmar Johansen and Kommentarfeltet (The commentary section) by Trygve Brøske. She has also, among other things, been the soprano soloist in Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and sang the roles of Dido, 2nd Woman and 1st Witch from the opera Dido and Aeneas. Some of her latest projects include singing Pamina and 1st lady from the opera Die Zauberflöte, the role Piacere in Händel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and Paul Agnew, the role of Iphis in Händel’s oratorio Jephtha, Hanne in Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten, she was the soprano soloist in the B-minor Mass by Bach, participated in Bach’s St Matthew Passion with Collegum Vocale Gent and Philippe Herreweghe and sang the soprano solos of Allegro in Händel’s L'Allegro, Il Pensieroso ed Il Moderato with Amsterdamse Händelvereniging.
